The Break-Up, 2018, Plaster and Pink Glitter Glue
Wabi-sabi
(n.) The discovery of beauty in imperfection; the acceptance of cycle of life and death.
(n.) A Japanese aesthetic. A gold flux (material) that is used to bond broken ceramic pieces together. A visual to communicate what is broken is now beautiful.
After the cheating, I made this plaster object and destroyed the piece over a period of three weeks. Once destroyed, I collected the broken pieces and put them back together by using my version of Wabi-sabi.

Slabs are made of porcelain, a very delicate material.

For Valentine’s Day I made him paper origami hearts. These are the shredded remnants. They are installed in calendar form from the time I met him to the day I found out he cheated on me.
